Berol traces its origins to the Eagle Pencil Company, established in 1856 by Daniel Berolzheimer, and took the Berol name in 1969 from the family's shortened surname. Long based in Britain, it became a household name for school pencils, handwriting pens and markers, supplying the BBC in the 1980s. Its last factory closed in 2010 and the brand now belongs to Newell Brands.
