Soennecken was founded in 1875 by Friedrich Soennecken in Germany and became one of the country's most important office supply and pen manufacturers, credited with inventing the ring binder and hole punch and shaping round-hand calligraphy nibs. The original company produced respected fountain pens until it went bankrupt in 1973. The trademark survives today as a German office-supplies brand owned by a purchasing cooperative.
