Zebra traces its origins to 1897, when founder Tokumatsu Ishikawa began producing steel pen nibs in Japan; he formally established the business and registered the Zebra trademark in 1914. The Tokyo-based company is known today for ballpoints, the Sarasa gel pen line, Mildliner highlighters and mechanical pencils.
