The US pen industry has two distinct eras: the early-20th-century giants (Parker, Waterman's origins, Sheaffer, Cross, Esterbrook) that helped standardize the modern fountain pen, and a more recent wave of small-batch American makers — Franklin-Christoph, Edison, Karas Kustoms, Schon DSGN — building pens on in-house lathes and CNC machines rather than overseas production lines.
